Bella Pro Series Coffee Maker Review: Is It Worth It?

The Bella Pro Series 12-cup coffee maker is a programmable drip brewer with a glass carafe and a permanent filter. Sensio Inc. sells it under the Bella brand. The 90194 model brews 12 cups of 5 oz (148 mL) each and starts on a 24-hour timer.
Hey, coffee friends, Sam here. I have followed Bella for 14 years of running a shop.
The machine has a strong button, pause and serve and an adjustable keep-warm time. A monthly vinegar cycle keeps it clean. Owners like its looks and price but split on how long it lasts. The glass carafe is fragile, and one Best Buy reviewer found uneven extraction.
The Bella costs $29.99 to $64.99 and carries a two-year warranty. Rivals from Black+Decker and Hamilton Beach have far more ratings behind them. Coming up: timer settings, cleaning steps and warranty terms. No brand can buy my verdict.
What Is the Bella Pro Series 12-Cup Coffee Maker?
The Bella Pro Series 12-cup coffee maker is a programmable drip brewer with a 900-watt heater, a glass carafe and a permanent gold-tone filter. Sensio Inc. of New York sells it under the Bella housewares brand.
Bella Housewares is the brand name. Sensio Inc. is the company behind it and the warrantor. The box holds the carafe with lid, the permanent filter, the filter holder, a coffee scoop and the manual.
The carafe holds 12 cups of 5 oz (148 mL) each, or 60 oz (1.8 L). A 5 oz cup is the US industry standard. Grounds and steam take up to 10% of the water, so the pot yields less than the reservoir holds.
The body measures 12.24 in (31 cm) high, 6.65 in (17 cm) wide and 10.35 in (26 cm) deep. The cord wraps under the base for storage. Bella sells its coffee makers at Amazon, Target, Walmart, Costco, Macy's, JCPenney, Kroger, Fred Meyer and Best Buy.
Which Bella Pro Series Model Does This Review Cover?
This review of the Bella Pro Series covers the 12-cup programmable drip model with the 90194 manual. Walmart lists the stainless steel version under item 90194. An earlier 12-cup version with a Bold program has a separate 90078 manual.
The Pro Series name covers many Bella machines. Other models include 14-cup and 18-cup drip makers, a single-serve and 12-cup combo, the MultiBrew and the Perfect Grind with a built-in burr grinder.
The Pro Series 90113 is a different kind of machine. Consumer Reports lists it as a capsule maker that needs Nespresso capsules. Drip buyers can ignore that model.
How Does the Bella Pro Series Coffee Maker Work?
The Bella Pro Series coffee maker brews by dripping heated water from a top reservoir through grounds in a permanent filter basket into the glass carafe. The user fills the tank, adds coffee and presses Brew Now.
The carafe must sit on the warming plate before brewing starts. The manual calls for 2 level tablespoons or 1 scoop of ground coffee per cup. Stronger or milder coffee needs a different amount.
The Specialty Coffee Association sets the Golden Cup standard at about 55 g of coffee per liter (1.9 oz per 34 oz). The manual dose of 2 tablespoons per 5 oz cup is near 10 g per 148 mL. That works out to roughly 68 g per liter, so the manual recipe is stronger than the standard.
The same standard puts brew water at 195-205°F (90-96°C) where it meets the grounds.
Pressing Brew Now again stops the cycle. Pressing it a third time resumes brewing. The manual tells owners to run two full carafes of plain water, then a third, before the first pot of coffee.
After brewing, the coffee stays warm for 2 hours by default. Holding Brew Now for 3 seconds opens the setting, and the hour and minute buttons change it. A Freshness Timer counts up from 0:00 after the brew. The machine shuts off when the count reaches the keep-warm time.
How Does the Bella Pro Series Pause and Serve Work?
The Bella Pro Series pause and serve feature stops the drip as soon as the carafe leaves the warming plate. Setting the carafe back resumes the drip. A cup can be poured before the full pot finishes.
The manual sets a limit of 30 seconds off the plate during brewing.
The valve that stops the drip sits in the filter holder, so a worn valve can leak. One Best Buy shopper traced dripping after carafe removal to a defective small plunger. The question about replacing the holder has no posted answer.
How Do You Set the Bella Pro Series Timer?
The Bella Pro Series timer needs the clock set first, then a start time entered with the Brew Later button. On power-up the LCD shows AM 12:00 with a flashing colon. The hour and minute buttons set the time on a 12-hour cycle.
Holding an hour or minute button for 2 seconds speeds the change to 4 or 5 steps per second. Holding either button for 3 seconds resets the clock. The AM and PM marker needs a check.
To program a brew, hold Brew Later for 3 seconds. Set the start time with the hour and minute buttons. Press Brew Later once, and the indicator lights to show standby mode. Bella says the timer reaches 24 hours ahead.
Steps:
- Plug in the machine and set the clock with the hour and minute buttons.
- Load the water and the coffee.
- Hold Brew Later for 3 seconds.
- Set the start time with the hour and minute buttons.
- Press Brew Later once to enter standby mode.
Pressing Brew Later again repeats the brew at the same time the next day. Pressing it while the mode is active cancels the program.
What Features Does the Bella Pro Series Coffee Maker Have?
The Bella Pro Series coffee maker combines an LCD clock, a 24-hour brew timer, a strength button and a 900-watt heater in one 12-cup body. The set is small, and each item has a plain purpose.
The glass carafe has an anti-drip spout. Its lid has a mixing tube that evens out flavor from the first cup to the last. A viewable water window shows the reservoir level.
The warming plate has a nonstick, stain-resistant surface. A cleaning light flashes when descaling is due. Auto shut-off ends the keep-warm phase after 2 hours by default.
The reusable filter, holder and carafe are dishwasher safe. A scoop comes in the box.
The 12-cup model has no thermal carafe, no built-in grinder and no single-serve option. Other Bella models such as the Perfect Grind and the MultiBrew add those features.
Key Features:
- 900-watt heater
- 24-hour brew timer
- Regular and strong brew
- Pause and serve valve
- Glass carafe with mixing tube lid
- Permanent gold-tone filter
- Cleaning reminder light
- Auto shut-off
What Does the Strong Setting Do on the Bella Pro Series?
The strong setting on the Bella Pro Series raises the intensity of the coffee when the Strong button is pressed before Brew Now. The Strong indicator lights on the LCD to confirm the choice.
Not every model uses the same name for this feature. The 90194 has a Strong button, while the earlier 90078 uses a Bold program. The 90078 manual describes the Bold cycle on that earlier model.
A bold cycle gives the grounds more time to steep. The longer contact pulls more oils and flavor from the bean. The result is a stronger cup.
The amount of coffee matters as well. Bella support advises one level scoop of coffee per cup of water, even on the bold setting. A scoop equals about 1 tablespoon (15 mL) for some buyers. More coffee makes a stronger cup.
Batch size can also change the taste. Small batches can give weak coffee. Bella support tells owners to press the strength button until the display reads 1-4 for a batch of one to four cups.
What Do Bella Pro Series Owners Say?
Bella Pro Series owners rate the machine well for looks and price but split on how long it lasts. The Amazon oatmilk 12-cup scores 3.7 stars from 2.5K ratings. The stainless Pro scores 4.9 stars from 19 ratings at Walmart.
The two scores cannot be weighed equally. The 19 Walmart ratings are too few to stand against the 2.5K Amazon ratings. Best Buy adds a larger sample. It shows about 4.5 stars from more than 590 reviews for a Bella Pro 12-cup model.
Amazon sorts the comments into themes, and the counts show what owners write about most. Quality has 500 mentions and reliability has 452. Value has 276, appearance 245, durability 191, color 183, coffee quality 117 and brewing performance 113.
The mix of themes shows a pattern. Looks and cup quality draw praise. Reliability and durability draw the doubts. Value for money splits between those who find it perfect and those who find it low quality.
What Do Owners Like About the Bella Pro Series?
Owners like the Bella Pro Series for its looks, its color range and its low price. Appearance has 245 mentions and color has 183 on Amazon. The brand sells oatmilk, plum, blossom and stainless finishes.
Price wins praise from Best Buy shoppers. One review title calls it a great coffee maker for the price. The Amazon price of $29.99 supports that view.
Brewing performance and coffee quality earn positive mentions. The machine makes a full pot with a timer, a strength choice and pause and serve at a budget price.
What Are the Common Bella Pro Series Complaints?
The common Bella Pro Series complaints cover heating element failure, broken glass carafes and uneven extraction. Amazon comments name the heating element and carafes that break during washing.
Replacement carafes need a call to Bella at 1-866-832-4843 or an email to help@bellahousewares.com.
Extraction can be uneven. One Best Buy reviewer wrote that the machine drips in the middle of the basket and pulls extract from the center only. The same reviewer called it a 40 dollar coffee maker.
A plastic smell and taste can show up in the first 10 pots. Error beeps and a flashing clock colon appear in unanswered Best Buy questions.
Complaints:
- Heating element failure
- Glass carafes that break during washing
- Uneven extraction from the basket
- Plastic smell and taste in early pots
- Error beeps with no brew
How Do You Clean the Bella Pro Series Coffee Maker?
The Bella Pro Series coffee maker cleans in two steps: a daily wash of the parts and a monthly vinegar cycle. The filter, the filter holder and the carafe go on the top rack of the dishwasher.
The scoop goes in the dishwasher beside the cutlery. Steel wool, abrasive cleansers and scratchy pads damage the carafe. The manual calls for a damp cloth on the outside and a nylon pad for stubborn stains.
The auto clean cycle uses 6 cups (1.4 L) of white vinegar and 4 cups (0.95 L) of cold water. Pour the mix into the reservoir. Put an 8 to 12 cup cupcake-style paper filter in the basket.
Seat the carafe lid and the empty carafe on the plate. Hold Keep Warm until CLEAN shows on the LCD. Press On/Off to start. The unit beeps at the start and at the end.
Auto Clean Steps:
- Mix 6 cups (1.4 L) of white vinegar with 4 cups (0.95 L) of cold water.
- Pour the mix into the reservoir.
- Put a cupcake-style paper filter in the basket.
- Place the empty carafe on the plate and hold Keep Warm until CLEAN shows.
- Press On/Off and wait for the end beep.
- Discard the solution and run 2 to 3 cycles of cold water.
How Often Does the Bella Pro Series Need Descaling?
The Bella Pro Series needs descaling often, with the special cleaning at least once a month. Hard water areas need it every 2 weeks. The manual ties both intervals to how often the machine runs and how hard the local water is.
On the USGS scale, hard water means 121 to 180 mg/L of calcium carbonate. That is 7 to 10.5 grains per gallon. Water above 180 mg/L is very hard.
That buildup changes how the machine performs. Minerals in the water dull the flavor of the coffee. They can also lengthen the brew time. A regular cleaning cycle removes the buildup.
The machine also signals when it needs a clean. An orange cleaning light flashes to ask for one. The manual advises running the CLEAN cycle when the light flashes.
Skipping the cycle carries a cost beyond taste. The Sensio warranty excludes damage from improper routine maintenance, so skipped cleaning can weaken a claim.
Sometimes a machine stays stuck in clean mode. A Best Buy answer gives a tip: a machine stuck in clean mode leaves it after the plug is pulled.
How Does the Bella Pro Series Compare With Rival Coffee Makers?
The Bella Pro Series costs about the same as the cheapest 12-cup programmable rivals but carries far fewer ratings. The Bella oatmilk lists at $29.99 on Amazon and the stainless model costs $64.99 at Walmart.
Black+Decker sells the CM1110B 12-cup programmable at $31.99 with 4.3 stars from 4,370 ratings. Its Vortex 12-cup costs $34.99 with 4.4 stars from 50,687 ratings. The Bella oatmilk has 3.7 stars from 2,500 ratings, so a buyer pays about the same for a lower score.
The Hamilton Beach FrontFill 46310 costs $49.99 with 4.3 stars from 20,171 ratings. Hamilton Beach Brands makes the FrontFill. Mr. Coffee sells a 12-cup at $49.99 with 4.1 stars. The Ninja CE251 costs $89.99 with 4.4 stars from 29,257 ratings.
The stainless Bella Pro 90194 at Walmart costs $64.99 and has a 4.9 rating. That score rests on only 19 ratings, far fewer than any rival has.
Prices and Ratings:
| Model | Price | Rating | Ratings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bella 12-cup (oatmilk) | $29.99 | 3.7 | 2,500 |
| Bella Pro stainless 90194 (Walmart) | $64.99 | 4.9 | 19 |
| Black+Decker CM1110B | $31.99 | 4.3 | 4,370 |
| Black+Decker Vortex 12-cup | $34.99 | 4.4 | 50,687 |

| Ninja CE251 | $89.99 | 4.4 | 29,257 |
Bella Pro Series vs Hamilton Beach FrontFill?
The Bella Pro Series sits near the Hamilton Beach FrontFill in features but trails it in rating volume. Both are programmable 12-cup drip makers with a glass carafe. Both offer a regular and a bold brew choice.
Because the features match, price becomes the first way to tell them apart. The FrontFill costs $49.99 on Amazon. The Bella oatmilk costs $29.99 and the stainless Bella costs $64.99 at Walmart. The FrontFill falls between the two Bella prices.
Ratings show the other difference. The FrontFill has 20,171 Amazon ratings at 4.3 stars. The Bella oatmilk has 2.5K ratings at 3.7 stars. A score built on more ratings is less likely to be swayed by a few unusual reviews. The larger pool of FrontFill ratings makes its score a firmer guide.
How Much Does the Bella Pro Series Coffee Maker Cost?
The Bella Pro Series coffee maker costs between $29.99 and $64.99 depending on finish and seller. Amazon lists the oatmilk 12-cup at $29.99, down from $39.99, a 25% cut.
The stainless Pro 90194 costs more. Walmart lists it at $64.99, and the seller GSAWHOLESALE sells and ships it. That seller holds 3.7 stars from 43 seller reviews.
Best Buy has run limited-time Pro Series 12-cup deals at $19.99. Those deals have since expired. Sale prices on Pro Series makers often fall between $30 and $50.
Walmart also offers protection plans as an option. The 2-year plan costs $7.00, and the 3-year plan costs $11.00. Either one adds to the base price of the maker.
Price Points:
| Listing | Price |
|---|---|
| Amazon oatmilk 12-cup | $29.99 |
| Walmart stainless 90194 | $64.99 |
| Best Buy limited-time deal | $19.99 |
| Walmart 3-year protection plan | $11.00 |

Is the Bella Pro Series Coffee Maker Worth It?
Yes. The Bella Pro Series coffee maker is worth it at $30 to $50 for a buyer who wants a timer, a strength button and pause and serve at a low price.
The value starts with what the machine does each morning. A 24-hour timer lets the coffee brew before the buyer gets up. A pause and serve valve stops the drip, so a cup can be poured before the pot finishes. The keep-warm time can be adjusted, and the parts are dishwasher safe.
The two-year warranty adds cover. Spread across those two years, $29.99 works out to about $15 per year.
The risks come from how little is known about the machine. Reliability reports are mixed, and the glass carafe is fragile. One report also described uneven extraction. A $34.99 Black+Decker or a $49.99 Hamilton Beach has far more ratings behind it. The Bella also has no thermal carafe or grinder.
The stainless Pro at $64.99 is harder to defend. Rivals with larger track records cost less or the same.
Pros:
- 24-hour brew timer
- Pause and serve valve
- Adjustable keep-warm time
- Dishwasher-safe parts
- Two-year warranty
Cons:
- Mixed reliability reports
- Fragile glass carafe
- Small rating pool
- No thermal carafe or grinder
Who Should Skip the Bella Pro Series?
Buyers who want a thermal carafe, a built-in grinder or a single-serve brewer should skip the 12-cup Bella Pro Series. Other Bella models such as the Perfect Grind, the single-serve and 12-cup combo and the MultiBrew cover those needs.
Buyers who want the longest proven life should pick a rival with tens of thousands of ratings. The Bella pool of ratings is small, and the reliability comments are mixed.
Even a buyer who accepts that risk may notice a plastic smell and taste after the first pots. The manual places its plain-water cycles before the first pot of coffee, so those cycles come first.
