Bella Pro Espresso Machine Review: Is It Worth It?

Welcome, I'm Sam, and today I review the Bella Pro espresso machine. A bag of Ethiopian Sidamo sits by my register when I judge Bella coffee gear.
The Bella Pro espresso machine is a 20-bar countertop espresso maker from the Bella housewares brand. It pulls single and double shots, steams milk with a manual wand and holds 1.7 L (57 oz) of water. The manual names the stainless model 90196 the 20 Bar Espresso Maker.
A pump with low-pressure pre-infusion pulls each shot, and two buttons program the shot volume. Cleaning takes a rinse after every use and a vinegar descale about every 3 months. Recorded sale prices ran from $29.99 to $59.99, while the De'Longhi Stilosa sells for $149.99.
No lab test of shot temperature exists for this model. Below, I cover steam wand milk drinks, descaling and warranty terms, plus a straight answer.
What Is the Bella Pro Espresso Machine?
The Bella Pro espresso machine is a 20-bar countertop espresso maker with a steam wand, sold under the Bella housewares brand. Sensio Inc. of New York makes the brand. The manual names the model the 20 Bar Espresso Maker.
The Bella Pro name covers several 20-bar machines. Model 90196 is the stainless 20 Bar Espresso Maker. The Barista Elite Drink Station+ is a different model with a built-in milk reservoir.
Bella's listing for the Barista Elite Espresso Maker adds a 52 mm (2.05 in) aluminum diecast portafilter and a thermocoil heating system. Buttons program single and double shot volumes. A heated top plate warms cups.
The machine is semi-automatic. A pump supplies the pressure and the user does the rest. The user grinds, doses and tamps the coffee. The machine then dispenses a preset shot volume and stops by itself.
The machine has no built-in grinder. Buyers need a separate grinder or finely ground espresso coffee.
Bella sells its machines through Amazon, Target, Walmart, Costco, Best Buy and other large US retailers.
What Comes With the Bella Pro Espresso Machine?
The Bella Pro espresso machine ships with a two-spout portafilter, two filter baskets, a tamper spoon and a cleaning pin. The manual lists these as the accessories.
The baskets hold one cup and two cups of coffee. The 2-in-1 tamper doubles as a measuring spoon.
The cleaning pin has two ends. The smaller end clears the holes in a filter basket and the steam wand. The larger wire clears the steam wand and water dispenser outlets.
The manual's accessory list names no milk pitcher. Buyers need to supply a frothing jug for milk drinks.
In the Box:
- Two-spout portafilter
- 1 cup and 2 cup filter baskets
- 2-in-1 coffee tamper spoon
- Cleaning pin
How Does the Bella Pro Espresso Machine Work?
The Bella Pro espresso machine pushes hot water through ground coffee with a 20-bar pump. Low, steady water pressure first wets the grounds. Full extraction pressure follows.
The control panel has four buttons: POWER, SINGLE, DOUBLE and STEAM. A side dial switches between standby, steam and hot water.
The single button pours a 1 oz (30 ml) shot by default. The double button pours 2.5 oz (74 ml). Both volumes can be reprogrammed.
All four buttons light up once the machine reaches brewing temperature.
The 20-bar figure is the pump's peak rating. Espresso extracts near 9 bar at the coffee, and an over-pressure valve limits the brew pressure on many machines. Bella's manual does not say whether this model has one.
The Specialty Coffee Association sets the brew water range at 195-205°F (90-96°C). The Bella manual publishes no brew temperature and no heat-up time.
How Do You Pull a Shot on the Bella Pro?
You pull a Bella Pro shot by starting with a blank shot to preheat the portafilter and cups. The user then fills the tank with cold water and loads a filter basket with ground coffee.
The portafilter handle lines up with the INSERT symbol on the brew head and turns to lock. A press of the SINGLE or DOUBLE button starts the pour.
The tank holds up to 1.7 L (57 oz). The manual says to keep water above the MIN mark of 5 oz (150 ml).
Steps to Pull a Shot:
- Run a blank shot to preheat the portafilter and cups.
- Fill the tank with cold water between the MIN and MAX marks.
- Load a filter basket with ground coffee and tamp it.
- Line the portafilter handle up with INSERT and lock it in.
- Press SINGLE or DOUBLE to start the pour.
Holding either shot button for 3 seconds programs a new volume. The maximum is 100 ml (3.4 oz) for a single and 150 ml (5.1 oz) for a double. Holding both buttons for 3 seconds restores the factory volumes.
How Does the Bella Pro Steam Wand Work?
The Bella Pro steam wand heats the boiler after the user presses STEAM, then releases steam when the side dial turns to the steam position. The STEAM light flashes while the boiler heats. It turns solid when steam is ready.
Steam does not run forever. It lasts 1.5 minutes at most. The hot water function is shorter, at 1 minute at most.
If the user brews right after steaming, the shot buttons flash fast.
Running hot water through the wand fixes this because the water cools the boiler. The buttons then settle, and the next shot can start.
A silicone tab on the wand lets the user swing it safely. The manual says to purge the wand over the drip tray after every use.
What Features Does the Bella Pro Espresso Machine Have?
The Bella Pro espresso machine offers a 20-bar pump, programmable single and double shots, a steam wand, a hot water function and a removable 1.7 L (57 oz) water tank.
A dual spout fills two cups at once. A removable drip tray catches spills and slides out for rinsing.
A heated warming plate sits on top. The machine switches itself off after 30 minutes in standby.
Key Features:
- 20-bar pump
- Programmable single and double shots
- Manual steam wand with hot water function
- Removable 1.7 L (57 oz) water tank
- Heated warming plate
- 30-minute auto shut-off
The hot water function draws from the steam wand. Americano drinks use that water.
The manual lists no PID temperature control, no pressure gauge and no grinder. The control panel has four buttons and no readout.
How Big Is the Bella Pro Espresso Machine?
The Bella Pro espresso machine measures 11.1 in (28.2 cm) high, 11.02 in (28 cm) wide and 8.34 in (21.2 cm) deep on Bella's Barista Elite listing.
The manual asks for 4 inches (10 cm) of space between the machine and any wall. The surface under it must resist heat.
The machine runs on 120 V AC only. The manual warns that plastic parts can darken a counter finish. A non-plastic mat belongs under the machine to protect the counter.
Does the Bella Pro Espresso Machine Make Good Espresso?
Yes. The Bella Pro espresso machine makes espresso with a 20-bar pump and low-pressure pre-infusion. The manual ties good espresso to steady temperature and consistent dose, grind and tamp.
No lab test of shot temperature or extraction exists for this model. The 20-bar pump rating is a maker's figure, not a measured result. Buyers can read it as a claim about the machine's design, not proof of how the coffee tastes.
Crema, the golden foam on top of a shot, depends more on the coffee than on the pump. The manual lists old coffee, a coarse grind, a light tamp and a small dose as the causes of thin crema.
Fresh beans, a fine grind and a firm tamp fix those causes. Buyers who use pre-ground coffee should pick a grind made for espresso. A grind that is too coarse leads to thin crema.
The manual does not say whether the filter baskets are pressurized. A pressurized basket forgives a poor grind and hides weak extraction, while a single-walled basket rewards a good one. Without that answer, a buyer cannot know how much the basket will cover for a weak grind.
Does the Bella Pro Make Good Milk Drinks?
Yes. The Bella Pro makes milk drinks with a manual steam wand that textures milk into microfoam. The user holds the jug and controls the foam.
Foam quality depends on where the wand tip sits. The tip belongs just below the milk surface. Large bubbles mean the tip sits too high.
The milk itself also shapes the result. Cold, fresh milk in a chilled jug froths best. Boiled milk will not foam, so milk that has already been heated gives poor results.
Good microfoam then goes into the drink in set amounts, and the manual gives target mixes for each one. A cappuccino is about 2/3 milky coffee and 1/3 microfoam. A flat white is 1/3 coffee and 2/3 steamed milk. A latte carries a 10 mm (0.4 in) foam layer.
How Do You Clean the Bella Pro Espresso Machine?
The Bella Pro espresso machine needs a rinse of the portafilter and basket after every use. The user discards the coffee puck and washes off the coffee oils.
The steam wand and water dispenser tips unscrew for cleaning. The cleaning pin clears the outlets, and the tips screw back on tight.
The brew head and outside body wipe clean with a damp cloth. The drip plate lifts off and the tray slides out to empty.
No part goes in the dishwasher. The machine never goes in water, and solvents or scratchy detergents can damage the surface.
The manual gives no backflush step. The control panel has no descale light, so the 3-month schedule and slow flow are the only signals.
How Often Should You Descale the Bella Pro?
You should descale the Bella Pro about every 3 months with distilled white vinegar. Hard water shortens that gap.
The mix is 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts cold water. The tank must never run completely dry during the process.
The user lets steam purge the line for at least 45 seconds. Then the user presses the double shot button until the tank empties through the machine.
A rinse with fresh cold water follows, run the same way. The manual says to repeat the whole cycle in hard water areas.
Descaling Steps:
- Fill the tank with 1 part white vinegar and 3 parts cold water.
- Lock an empty portafilter and basket into the brew head.
- Turn the dial to steam and purge the line for 45 seconds.
- Press the double shot button until the tank empties.
- Refill with fresh cold water and run the cycle again to rinse.
What Problems Does the Bella Pro Espresso Machine Have?
The Bella Pro espresso machine has a short list of common problems, and the manual traces each to a user or setup cause. The manual covers four problems:
- Leaking coffee: Coffee runs down the side of the portafilter. A loose lock or a dirty brew head causes it.
- No flow: A shot that will not flow points to a blocked basket. It can also mean the grind is too fine or the tamp is too hard. The fix is a coarser grind and a lighter tamp.
- Cold coffee: Cold cups and a cold portafilter cool the coffee.
- Burnt taste: A burnt taste follows descaling when the machine is not rinsed.
No pattern of owner failures was found for this model. Plastic parts can stain a counter, so the machine needs a non-plastic mat.
Why Is the Bella Pro Pump Loud?
The Bella Pro pump gets loud when the tank holds too little water or sits wrong. The manual names both causes.
The tank must stay above the MIN mark of 5 oz (150 ml). Running the machine with an empty tank is never allowed.
A tank that is not seated gives the same noise. Pressing firmly down on the tank fixes it.
A fresh machine needs its pump primed. The first-use steps purge a full tank through the system.
How Does the Bella Pro Espresso Machine Compare to Rivals?
The Bella Pro espresso machine costs less than the De'Longhi Stilosa and the Breville Bambino and holds more water. The Bella tank holds 1.7 L (57 oz). The Stilosa holds 1 L (34 oz) and the Bambino holds 1.4 L (47 oz).
The Stilosa lists a 15-bar pump and sells for about $149. The Bambino lists a 15-bar pump, a 54 mm (2.13 in) portafilter and a list price of $299.95.
The Bambino heats in about 3 seconds with its ThermoJet heater. The Bella manual gives no heat-up time.
Bella Pro vs. Rivals:
| Spec | Bella Pro | De'Longhi Stilosa | Breville Bambino |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $29.99 to $89.99 on sale | $149.99 | $299.95 |
| Pump rating | 20 bar | 15 bar | 15 bar |
| Water tank | 1.7 L (57 oz) | 1 L (34 oz) | 1.4 L (47 oz) |
| Portafilter | 52 mm (2.05 in) | 51 mm (2 in) | 54 mm (2.13 in) |
The Bambino has no automatic steam wand. The Bella wand is manual too.
The Breville Bambino Plus adds an automatic steam wand. The Bambino Plus sold for $399.95 at Best Buy in March 2026.
The Stilosa uses a 51 mm (2 in) portafilter, and aftermarket baskets and tampers are easy to find in that size. Reviews disagree on whether its baskets are pressurized.
How Does the Bella Pro Compare to the De'Longhi Stilosa?
The Bella Pro undercuts the De'Longhi Stilosa on price at every sale price seen. The Stilosa sells for $149.99. A Bella at $89.99 is $60 cheaper. A Bella at $29.99 is $120 cheaper.
Price is not the only thing a buyer sees on a counter. Size matters too, because the machine must fit the space. The Stilosa weighs 4.3 kg (9.5 lb). Its base is 20.5 cm (8.1 in) wide and 28.5 cm (11.2 in) deep. It stands 34.3 cm (13.5 in) tall.
The Bella has a different shape. It is 28 cm (11 in) wide and 21.2 cm (8.3 in) deep. That makes it wider and shallower than the Stilosa. It takes more room side to side and less from front to back.
The pump ratings differ as well. The Stilosa has a 15-bar pump, and the Bella has a 20-bar pump. Bar is a unit of pressure. A higher pump rating does not prove a better shot.
How Much Does the Bella Pro Espresso Machine Cost?
The Bella Pro espresso machine sold for $29.99 to $59.99 in recorded sales and carried a $120 reference price. Best Buy listed the stainless 90196 at $59.99 in January 2024.
The price fell to $49.99 in June 2024 and to $29.99 in July 2024. Sale prices move often.
The Barista Elite Drink Station+ is a related model with a built-in milk reservoir. It lists at $229.99 and has sold for $89.99.
A buyer should add the cost of a grinder. The machine needs fresh, finely ground coffee.
The Baratza Encore ESP grinder sells for $199.95. A Bella at $89.99 plus that grinder totals $289.94. The Breville Bambino lists at $299.95, so the gap is $10.01.
Recorded Bella Pro Prices:
| Date | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| January 2024 | $59.99 | Stainless 20-bar model |
| June 2024 | $49.99 | Sale against a $120 reference price |
| July 2024 | $29.99 | Best Buy sale on model 90196 |
What Warranty Covers the Bella Pro?
The Bella Pro warranty covers mechanical defects for two years and non-mechanical parts for 90 days. Sensio Inc. repairs, replaces or refunds the product.
Only the original retail buyer is covered, so the warranty does not transfer to anyone else. The buyer also needs the sales receipt to make a claim.
A claim starts with a call to 1-866-832-4843. A rep first tries to fix the problem by phone. If that fails, the rep issues a case number.
The buyer then ships the tagged product and the receipt to Sensio. The buyer pays for shipping and insurance.
Some actions void coverage. These are using the wrong voltage, negligent use and self-repair.
Is the Bella Pro Espresso Machine Worth It?
Yes. The Bella Pro espresso machine is worth it when it sells below about $90 for a buyer with a grinder.
The pros are a low sale price, a 1.7 L (57 oz) tank, programmable shot volumes, a steam wand and a two-year warranty.
The cons are the lack of measured shot data, the need for a separate grinder and a non-plastic mat, and a manual milk workflow.
At $149 the De'Longhi Stilosa competes directly, and the Bella loses its price edge.
Pros:
- Low sale price
- Large 1.7 L (57 oz) tank
- Programmable shot volumes
- Steam wand for milk
- Two-year warranty on mechanical defects
Cons:
- No measured shot data
- Needs a separate grinder
- Needs a non-plastic mat
- Manual milk workflow
Under $60, the Bella is an easy buy. From $60 to $90, the Bella fits a buyer who already owns a grinder. From $90 to $149, the Stilosa competes. Above $149, skip the Bella.
Who Should Buy the Bella Pro Espresso Machine?
The Bella Pro espresso machine suits a beginner on a tight budget who already owns a grinder. The machine teaches dose, grind and tamp control.
Buyers who want one-touch milk drinks should look at the Barista Elite Drink Station+. That model adds a built-in milk reservoir.
Buyers who want proven shot data should look at a model with independent test results.
