Azkoyen Vitro X1 Super Automatic Espresso Machine Review: Is It Worth It?

The Azkoyen Vitro X1 is a compact bean-to-cup espresso machine from the Spanish maker Azkoyen. It grinds, tamps and brews each drink on order. It is a commercial machine for offices, hotels and shops, not a home appliance.
Welcome to Odradeks, I'm Sam. We switch to a new coffee every week, so I dial in all the time.
The machine brews at 9 bar with a 7 g to 14 g dose and serves up to 150 cups a day. It offers 12 drinks and touchless Distance Selection. Milk and chocolate drinks come from powder. Cleaning follows a daily and weekly routine, and seals last up to 60,000 drinks.
US dealers list the Vitro X1 from $6,265 to $6,595, and no dealer page checked states a warranty. The X1 suits small offices and shops. Home users and fresh-milk buyers should look elsewhere. I answer 9 questions, brewing group and cleaning schedule included, with no sponsor.
What Is the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Super Automatic Espresso Machine?
The Azkoyen Vitro X1 super automatic espresso machine is a compact bean-to-cup machine for offices, hotels and convenience stores. It grinds, tamps and brews each espresso on order. The same machine also mixes powdered milk and chocolate drinks.
Super automatic and bean-to-cup mean the same thing here. The machine grinds whole beans for each cup, presses them and brews. Staff only touch a button, or hold a finger near it. The Vitro X1 is not a home or prosumer machine.
Azkoyen, the Spanish maker behind it, is based in Peralta, Navarra. The group puts 15% of its workforce into research and development. Its US office sits in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the UK, the Bristol office trades as Coffetek.
The Vitro X1 won the 2021 European Product Design Award in the catering category. The jury praised its compact, contemporary design. The award covers looks and use, not coffee taste.
The Vitro X1 belongs to Azkoyen's Vitro family. The family also includes the Vitro S1, Vitro S5, Vitro X3, Vitro X4, Vitro X5 and the fresh-milk Vitro X1 MIA. Azkoyen sells the X1 with cup, coin validator, RFID and cashless payment kits.
Which Azkoyen Vitro X1 Version Does This Review Cover?
This review of the Azkoyen Vitro X1 covers the X1 Espresso, the powdered-milk model with one bean hopper and two soluble canisters. The canisters hold milk powder and chocolate. Dealers also sell it under the Coffetek name in the UK.
A second version, the X1 MIA, adds a fresh-milk system. It uses Micro-Injected Air to foam fresh or plant milk. The MIA reached the US market in April 2021. Coffetek also lists an X1 MIA Double Bean model, which has two bean hoppers.
Listings disagree on some figures. Weight appears as 42 kg, 39 kg, 38.5 kg and 30.5 kg. Power appears as 1700 W and 1800 W. This review uses the Azkoyen brochure and technical manual: 42 kg and 1800 W. US dealer figures are marked as such.
How Does the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Make a Drink?
The Azkoyen Vitro X1 makes a drink by grinding fresh beans to order, pressing them and pushing hot water through at 9 bar. A used coffee puck drops into the waste bin. The whole cycle runs in seconds.
Each espresso runs in five steps. The user picks a drink. The grinder doses the beans. The AZK V30 group presses the coffee. The pump pushes water through the puck while a flow meter counts the volume. The piston lifts and the puck falls into the bin.
The grinder is the Azkoyen M03 Horeca Performance. It has 63 mm grinding discs, a 400 W motor and a speed of 1,250 rpm. A time setting controls the dose, not a weight sensor.
Time dosing has a side effect. A handle sets the grind, and the manual warns that grind size changes the gram weight. Three seconds of coarse grind makes more coffee than three seconds of fine grind. An owner should weigh a few doses after any change of grind.
A 700 cc brass boiler heats the water with a 1,100 W element. The factory water temperature is 85 °C (185 °F), and the manual lists a 70 to 94 °C range. A 48 W pump builds the 9 bar pressure.
Milk and chocolate drinks use a separate path, because they start from powder instead of beans. Powder drops into a whipper chamber and mixes with hot water. A Mabuchi motor spins the mixing blade at 15,000 rpm. A separate hot water spout serves tea.
How Does the Vitro X1 Brewing Group Work?
The Vitro X1 brewing group is the AZK V30, a resin unit that adjusts its dose from 7 g to 14 g. A 24 V motor moves the piston to the set dose. A pulse counter tracks the piston position. This way, the machine knows when the right amount of space is ready for the coffee.
The same motor also presses the coffee puck, which is the packed disc of ground coffee. Pressure follows the gram setting of each recipe. A bigger dose gets a firmer press.
Water is the other half of each drink, and a flow meter counts it. The water volume per drink is programmable. A 14 g dose supports cups up to 12 oz (355 mL).
The same group can serve filter coffee. A US dealer lists espresso and filter coffee from one machine. The longer drink uses the larger dose. The same dealer lists an optional AZK V20 group with a fixed 12 to 14 g dose.
What Are the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Specs?
The Azkoyen Vitro X1 specs list a body 672 mm high, 337 mm wide and 505 mm deep, weighing 42 kg (92.6 lb). In inches that is 26.5 high, 13.3 wide and 19.9 deep. A cup holder raises the height to 742 mm (29.2 in) in one brochure.
The bean hopper holds 1.2 kg (2.6 lb), and Azkoyen says it adapts to 2.2 kg (4.9 lb). At a 7 g to 14 g dose, 1.2 kg makes about 85 to 170 espressos. The milk canister holds 0.6 kg (1.3 lb) and the chocolate canister 0.8 kg (1.8 lb).
Used coffee leaves the machine as pucks, which are compact discs of spent grounds. A waste bin holds 60 of them. The display asks for emptying after the 60th drink. The liquids tray holds 1 L (34 fl oz) in the manual and 1.2 L in the brochure.
The European model runs on 230 V and draws up to 1800 W. A 500 cc (17 fl oz) water tank allows use without plumbing. A 700 cc brass boiler heats the water.
Vitro X1 Specs:
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Height | 672 mm (26.5 in) |
| Width | 337 mm (13.3 in) |
| Depth | 505 mm (19.9 in) |
| Weight | 42 kg (92.6 lb) |
| Bean hopper | 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) |
| Boiler | 700 cc brass |
| Power | 230 V, 1800 W |
The US version differs from the European one. Coffee Machine Depot lists 120 V at 60 Hz, a maximum power of 1300 W and a weight of 86 lb (39 kg). It lists a height of 35 in (89 cm) and UL 197 and NSF 4 certifications.
The European manual lists CE marking and the EN 60335-2-63 safety standard. The heater has a 120 °C safety cutout that disconnects it if the boiler overheats.
How Many Cups a Day Can the Vitro X1 Make?
The Vitro X1 makes up to 150 espresso cups, 150 cappuccinos or 40 hot chocolates a day, by the Azkoyen brochure. The US Azkoyen site and Coffee Machine Depot give a lower figure of 100 cups a day.
The gap between 150 and 100 makes more sense once the product line is clear. Azkoyen rates its whole Series 1 for up to 100 cups a day and its Series 5 for up to 300. The X1 belongs to the first group, so the lower figure matches the series rating.
The 150 figure still has a use. It suits steady office use, not a rush counter.
Cup size is flexible. The Go Large option fills 8 to 12 oz (240 to 355 mL) cups. The maximum cup height is 17 cm (6.7 in).
What Features Does the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Have?
The Azkoyen Vitro X1 features include up to 12 drink selections, a touchless panel and top-loading hoppers. The menu covers espresso, americano, cappuccino, latte, mocha, decaf, hot chocolate and hot water.
Drink Menu:
- Espresso
- Americano
- Cappuccino
- Latte
- Mocha
- Decaf
- Hot chocolate
- Hot water
The X1 Espresso has no steam wand and no fresh-milk system. All milk drinks come from powder. Powder needs no fridge and keeps longer than fresh milk. Fresh milk needs the X1 MIA.
The panel has 8 direct keys and 4 pre-selections. Each label is backlit. A two-line display with 16 characters per line shows messages. Labels clip on and off, so an operator can rename drinks.
An operator sets recipes with the programming handset. The manual lists dose, water volume and water temperature as programmable. The user picks from the menu.
Hoppers fill from the top without opening the door. An illuminated dispense area lights the cup. The liquids tray slides out of the front.
Payment is optional. Azkoyen sells a cup module, a validator, an RFID reader and an MDB cashless kit. MDB is the standard interface that vending payment devices use. An 850 mm (33.5 in) base cabinet fits a coin validator.
What Is Distance Selection on the Vitro X1?
Distance Selection on the Vitro X1 is a patented system that lets a user choose a drink without touching the panel. A finger held about 2 cm (0.8 in) from a label picks the drink.
Capacitive detectors make this possible. They sense the finger near the label, so no key has to move. Once a drink starts, the other labels go dark and only the chosen drink stays lit.
Touch selection still works on the same keys, so users can pick either way. On a shared office machine, the panel stays cleaner because fewer hands touch it.
How Do You Clean and Maintain the Azkoyen Vitro X1?
Cleaning the Azkoyen Vitro X1 follows a daily, weekly and three-monthly schedule from the technical manual. The daily job takes a few minutes. Most parts come out by hand.
Daily, the waste bucket is emptied and rinsed, and the liquids tray is washed with dish soap. Beater auto-cleaning is run by pressing button B on the programming handset.
Weekly, the brewing group is pulled out and rinsed under a tap to remove coffee particles. It must be dry before it goes back in. The beaters, outlet tubes and chamber also come out. They get washed with a soft cloth only.
The hoppers need attention least often, which is every three months. The product hoppers and the bean hopper are emptied and washed with dish soap. They are dried, and their supports are cleaned too. The liquids tray is removable from the front, so there is no need to open the machine.
Cleaning Schedule:
| Frequency | Task |
|---|---|
| Daily | Empty the waste bucket and wash the liquids tray |
| Daily | Run beater auto-cleaning with button B |
| Weekly | Rinse the brewing group and wash the beaters |
| Every three months | Wash the product hoppers and the bean hopper |
Drying matters at every step because damp powder forms lumps. Steam from the mixers can reach the canisters, so the machine has an extractor fan that removes it. The canisters should stay dry, and every part should be dry before it is refitted.
The technical manual names no descaling step. Hard water still scales a brass boiler. Ask the dealer for a descaling routine and fit a water filter. The BWT cartridge filter is one filter that Coffee Machine Depot recommends.
How Often Does the Vitro X1 Need New Seals and Filters?
The Vitro X1 needs a piston filter clean every 15,000 drinks, a piston seal every 30,000 and group seals every 60,000. Those counts are service counts, not months.
Service Intervals:
| Part | Interval | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Piston filter | 15,000 drinks | Clean |
| Piston seal | 30,000 drinks | Replace |
| Group seals | 60,000 drinks | Replace |
At 100 drinks a day, 15,000 drinks take about five months. Piston seals take about ten months. Group seals take about twenty months.
Clean the filter with a non-metal brush. Never push sharp objects into blocked holes. Replace the filter when it stays blocked. Use Loctite 243 on the filter screw when refitting.
What Does the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Need to Install?
The Azkoyen Vitro X1 needs an earthed socket, a water source and a level counter to install. The room must stay between 0 and 50 °C (32 to 122 °F). Humidity must stay under 85% without condensation. The machine may tilt no more than 5 degrees on any axis.
The counter carries the machine, so it must hold 42 kg (92.6 lb). The 850 mm base cabinet is the other option. Allow room above the machine, because the hoppers fill from the top.
The water intake must sit at least 1 m (3.3 ft) from any electrical socket. Local low-voltage rules set that gap. Plan the counter position before the delivery.
Altitude changes the boiler setting, because water boils at a lower temperature higher up. It boils at 95 °C (203 °F) at 1,500 m and at 91 °C (196 °F) at 2,700 m. The manual advises 92 °C at 1,500 m and 88 °C at 2,700 m.
Once the machine runs, the display reports faults in plain words. It shows NO COFFEE BEANS, WASTE BIN FULL and ERROR: NO WATER. LONG DISTRIBUTION means the grind is too fine or the group showers are dirty.
Which Power and Water Supply Does the Vitro X1 Need?
The Vitro X1 power and water supply need an earthed socket rated for at least 2,000 W, a breaker and a 3/4 inch water line. The mains cable is 1,800 mm (71 in) long. Use a socket that disconnects both poles.
Supply Needs:
- Earthed socket rated for at least 2,000 W
- Breaker on the circuit
- 3/4 inch male water connection
- At least 5 L (1.3 gal) of water a minute
- Mains pressure of 0.5 to 10 kg/cm²
Plumbed use needs a 3/4 inch male connection. The supply must give at least 5 L (1.3 gal) a minute at 0.5 to 10 kg/cm² pressure, about 0.5 to 9.8 bar (7 to 142 psi). The hose is not in the box.
Water quality matters. The manual advises a resin filter for hard or chlorinated water. With a softener, mains pressure must reach at least 1 kg/cm².
The machine also has an autonomy mode. A separate pump draws water from a plastic jerry can. That mode suits sites with no water line.
How Does the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Compare With Rival Machines?
Next to rival machines, the Azkoyen Vitro X1 sits at the entry end of the Vitro line and below the Series 5 in output. The Series 5 handles larger crowds at a higher price.
Price and size show the gap. Coffee Machine Depot lists the Vitro X1 at $6,595 and the Vitro S5 at $8,174. The S5 weighs 63 kg (139 lb). The S5 also holds a 2 kg (4.4 lb) bean hopper. Its waste drawer takes 220 pucks, the spent coffee discs, against 60 on the X1.
The Jura GIGA X3c Professional is a common rival. UK sellers list it at 150 cups a day. It measures 555 mm high, 320 mm wide and 497 mm deep. It has a touchscreen, dual ceramic disc grinders and a direct water connection. The Jura weighs 19 kg (42 lb), less than half as much as the Azkoyen.
The Azkoyen offers powdered milk, touchless keys and payment kits.
Machine Comparison:
| Machine | Weight | Daily output | Grinder |
|---|---|---|---|
| Azkoyen Vitro X1 | 42 kg (92.6 lb) | Up to 150 cups | M03 Horeca Performance, 63 mm |
| Azkoyen Vitro S5 | 63 kg (139 lb) | Series 5 rated up to 300 cups | M03 Horeca Performance |
| Jura GIGA X3c Professional | 19 kg (42 lb) | Up to 150 cups | Dual ceramic disc |
Vitro X1 vs Vitro X1 MIA?
The Vitro X1 MIA replaces the powdered-milk canister with a fresh-milk foaming system. Micro-Injected Air makes hot or cold foam from dairy or plant milk. It adds milk drinks without steam.
The standard X1 works differently. It mixes milk powder with hot water. Powder keeps the machine simple, and it needs no fridge. Fresh milk gives a taste closer to a shop latte.
The price gap is large. Coffee Machine Depot lists the X1 at $6,595 and the MIA at $11,414. That is $4,819 more for fresh milk. The US MIA lists 120 V power at 1300 W and a weight of 41.3 kg (91 lb).
How Much Does the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Cost?
The Azkoyen Vitro X1 costs about $6,265 to $6,595 from US dealers. Coffee Origins lists $6,265.80 to $6,565.80, and the higher price adds cashless vend. Coffee Machine Depot lists $6,595.
Azkoyen publishes no price. Dealers quote their own. Stock also changes, and Coffee Machine Depot showed the machine as sold out in October 2026.
The base price covers only the machine. A base cabinet, a coin validator, a cashless kit and a water filter all cost extra. The water hose is not supplied, so that is another item to buy.
Because the final cost depends on these extras, ask for a written quote. It should name the exact model and voltage and list each accessory. It should also add freight, tax and installation. It should also state the delivery time.
What Does the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Warranty Cover?
The Azkoyen Vitro X1 warranty is not stated on the US dealer pages checked for this review. The Coffee Machine Depot page lists no warranty term. It shows only a 30-day return policy.
Get the terms in writing before paying. Ask when the cover starts, and whether labor and travel are included. Ask whether seals, the piston filter and grinder discs count as wear parts.
Ask what voids the cover. Skipped cleaning, a missing water filter and the wrong voltage are common causes. A buyer far from a dealer should confirm who answers a repair call.
Is the Azkoyen Vitro X1 Worth It?
Yes. The Azkoyen Vitro X1 is worth buying for a small office, hotel or shop that wants steady espresso and milk drinks without a barista. It grinds fresh, brews at 9 bar and serves up to 150 cups a day.
The strengths are real. The machine is compact, plumbs into the mains and takes no staff skill. The seals last 30,000 drinks. Dealers name offices, hotels, leisure centres, convenience stores and care homes as fits.
The weak points are clear too. It uses powdered milk, the price is only dealer-quoted, and listings give conflicting specs. No independent taste test of the X1 exists, and the design award did not judge flavor.
Pros:
- Compact body of 337 mm width
- Fresh grinding for each cup
- Touchless Distance Selection
- Plumbed or tank water supply
- Seals last up to 30,000 drinks
Cons:
- Powdered milk only
- Price set by dealers
- Conflicting specs across listings
- No independent taste test
- No warranty terms on dealer pages
For a home kitchen, the verdict flips. A 42 kg commercial machine at about $6,595 is the wrong tool.
Who Should Skip the Azkoyen Vitro X1?
Home users, fresh-milk buyers and busy cafes should skip the Azkoyen Vitro X1. Each group needs a different machine.
A home user would pay for payment kits that a household never uses. The machine also weighs 42 kg of steel. A lighter machine does the same job for far less.
A buyer who wants real milk foam faces a different gap. The Vitro X1 does not make it, so that buyer needs the MIA at about $11,414 or another machine.
A busy cafe hits a limit of volume. A shop above 150 cups a day needs a Series 5 or a larger rival.
